Cursal optical scanner for wood defect detection – CROSS-SCAN

The Cross-Scan 4.1 is a high-performance optical scanning system designed to significantly increase productivity, reduce labor costs and ensure accurate detection of wood characteristics and defects. Technologically advanced, intelligent and highly productive, it represents an effective solution for modern industrial wood-processing lines. The scanner is engineered to operate in perfect synergy with Cursal high-speed optimizers such as the TRV 2700EB. Cursal crosscut saws are specifically designed to be integrated in line with the scanner and other automated equipment, allowing the creation of complete, continuous and fully synchronized production cycles. As each board passes through the system, the Cross-Scan 4.1 analyzes all four faces of the material, detecting and classifying defects according to user-defined parameters. Once scanning is completed, the system automatically calculates the best possible cutting combination, optimizing the loaded cutting list and transmitting the data in real time to the crosscut saw CNC control. Board infeed and outfeed are managed by a low-wear, CNC-controlled belt system, equipped with pneumatic pressure wheels, guided alignment wheels, pressure heads with free-running wheels and controlled advance sequencing. This configuration ensures stable material handling, precise positioning and uninterrupted production flow. Detectable defects Knots, cracks, resin pockets, discolorations, pith, bark, chamfers, dimensional defects, insect holes. Parameter customization Detection parameters for the various defect types can be adjusted, refined or improved at any time through quick and simple software settings. Full customization of optimization criteria is available, allowing priorities to be defined according to lengths, finger-joint recovery, quantities, value or quality. Different detection rules can also be applied to each of the four board faces, with additional differentiation across the width of each side. Production statistics An intuitive statistical module allows operators to monitor production performance in real time, with the ability to export data in Excel format for analysis and process optimization.
